Here are select links to websites I’ve worked on, as well as an overview of my involvement on each project.
Vanessa Barrington | Writer and Culinary Guide
Vanessa is a cook and author specializing in writing about food justice, urban agriculture, and sustainability. She had a dated website as well as a TypePad blog with disparate designs, and with a beautiful new cookbook, DIY Delicious, due to be published, it was time to unify and refreshen her web presence with a more consistent, bright clean look across the board. By switching her blog to WordPress so it could be hosted on her server, not only is the SEO boosted for Vanessa’s site, but also fans are treated to less hopping around the web to find her. Vanessa’s blog was a winner of a 2010 Bronze Horizon Interactive Award.
Joaquin Miller Elementary School
Joaquin Miller’s website had outgrown its structure over the years, making its wealth of content difficult to navigate and find. I completely reorganized and redesigned the site to meet modern standards and reflect the school’s vibrant community. Features of this 2010 Bronze Horizon Interactive Award winner include a Google Calendar, allowing the parent community to subscribe to events via mobile device, and a WordPress powered School News blog.
Mary and Sara — Cooking Thymes Two
Authors of 8 cookbooks, with over a million books sold, identical twins Mary Corpening Barber and Sara Corpening Whiteford share their passion for cooking healthy foods, entertaining, recipes and tips, as well as scrumptious excerpts from their best selling books on their new blog and site, that won a 2010 Bronze Horizon Interactive Award. I designed and developed everything from the ground up, including the WordPress blog and its coordinating YouTube channel, Facebook fan page, and Twitter account.
McRoskey Mattress Company
Having celebrated its 110th anniversary of handcrafting mattresses and box springs in San Francisco, it was time for McRoskey Mattress Company to freshen their website to better reflect the quality and history that goes into every McRoskey mattress. At Placemaking Group, I designed and developed the site’s new look, that won a 2010 Bronze Horizon Interactive Award, and created its coordinating YouTube channel and Twitter account, as well as an upgraded email newsletter design.
At Home with Malcolm and Nora
Winner of a 2008 Bronze Horizon Interactive Award, this family photo blog utilizes Flickr’s image hosting and Blogger’s tools to update the site. RSS subscriptions may be received as an email blast.
Streetside Stories
This design, created pro bono for the Taproot Foundation, won a Bronze Horizon Interactive Award in 2007. The site includes a blog with an RSS feed, social bookmarking and blog-roll features, an online store, embedded video anthology previews, and more.
How to Be Like Colin Greenwood
— in Ten Easy Steps
Hailed by Q Magazine as a “terrific on-line tribute” and by Pitchfork.com as “an appropriately classy fansite,” this Radiohead fan site won a Silver Horizon Interactive Award in 2007, and has twice been voted into the BT Digital Music Awards People’s Choice for Best Music Blog Top 50. It utilizes social bookmarking as a means of promotion, as well as Flickr’s image hosting and blogging tools for maintenance.
